Description

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Henry Canova Vollam Morton (H V Morton) (1892 1979) was a journalist and pioneering travel writer, who first achieved fame in 1923 when he covered for the Daily Express the opening of the tomb of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter. ‘In Search of England’ was first published in 1927 and quickly ran into numerous editions, of which this copy is the 17th, only 5 years after its first publication. It is packed with delightful anecdotes, humorous conversations and observations about the places he visited and the people he met. The illustrated map on front and back endpapers traces the route of his journey. Hardback in good used condition. Dark blue cover boards, rose motif (for England) in gold impressed on front, spine titles in faded gold. Spine rather worn, bumped and frayed at top & bottom, and at corners. Binding slightly exposed inside front cover, otherwise firm. Text (286 pp, illustrated endpapers, 18 sepia photographs) very good. Pages have been cut, so edges are uneven.
